 Webinar and Online Meeting Helpful Hints:

1.) The Phoenix Indian Center is currently using Zoom technology for online webinars and meetings. We are researching other online platforms and if we switch to another in the future, we will provide information here on our website for how to connect. 

2.) What device will you be using for the Webinar or Online Meeting? Please go through these steps well before the webinar or meeting

  • Attending using a mobile device (phone)? Be sure to download the Zoom app
  • Attending using a laptop or desktop computer? Create a FREE Zoom account at www.zoom.com

3.) Go to the link provided and provide any pre-information (if necessary) well before the start of the webinar or meeting

4.) Be sure to click on the link that will be provided and log into the webinar/online meeting a minimum of 5 – 10 minutes early. That gives you time to fix problems if needed.

Want to really find out about a career field or job? The informational interview is a highly effective way of gaining insight into your career interests! Here you will learn what an informational interview is, how to conduct them and how they can help you network to gain a job. Only 20% of open jobs are listed in online job search engines (indeed, monster, careerbuilder). Informational interviews can help you gain access to the 80% of jobs not advertised. This is a must workshop for those wanting to accelerate their job search.

Create a plan for your job search. In this session you will plan your job search, schedule your week to be more effective, develop your own “elevator speech” and learn how to effectively utilize your job search network through using internet and networking skills. You will learn to use the computer to investigate and become familiar with the different types of on-line job boards. In this workshop, you will also discover how to access the “hidden job market”. We’ll show you how to find jobs which are not online or in the newspaper. Job search engines only constitute 20% of the total jobs out there…we’ll show you how to find the hidden 80%! The more you know about job searching, the faster you will find employment!!

To get the job, you must “Ace the interview!” To get you ready, we cover every detail needed to prepare you for your interview. Let’s prepare for and have an effective interview! In this session, the interview process will be covered from beginning to end. We will address how to get ready for the interview, how to make a good first impression, recognize the various types of questions and utilize the STAR technique and a review of the 50 most common interviewing questions. We will also review questions for you to ask the interviewer (a crucial moment in your interview) and follow-up tips.

Dealing with potential employers is never an easy task for individuals with criminal records. Overcoming obstacles to employment is part of the focus of this workshop. By removing perceived obstacles, you can learn to present yourself with a positive attitude and gain the confidence you need for success! The workshop will help individuals with background issues write a resume, complete a job application and interview with confidence. We also focus on the preparation of how you present the information concerning your background in the interview.

The Urban Indian Coalition of Arizona (UICAZ) invites you to attend our monthly coalition meetings! Join our coalition working toward creating positive partnerships within our community for our families and youth! UICAZ meets the 4th Tuesday of every month from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Attend our coalition meetings virtually on Zoom or in-person at the Phoenix Indian Center. The Phoenix Indian Center (4520 N Central Ave #250 Phoenix, AZ 85012) is located on the 2nd floor of the Native American Community Service Center. Visitor parking is located on the 1st floor of the parking garage.

The QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention is a brief educational program designed to teach “gatekeepers”–those who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide (e.g., parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, coaches, caseworkers, police officers) — the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond by following three steps:• Question the individual’s desire or intent regarding suicide• Persuade the person to seek and accept help • Refer the person to appropriate resources

We’ll give parents, grandparents, and community members tips for preventing their fatal overdoses. While medication is meant for healing, when in the wrong hands, it can lead to lifelong problems of substance abuse, addiction and death. Fostering AI Youth is a three-day workshop led by a facilitator that will focus on topics such as communicating with your child, introducing and understanding American Indian norms, values, and beliefs with an emphasis on talking with your teen about risky behaviors. This workshop is open to all caregivers: new foster parents, guardians, grandparents, childcare providers, and any relative(s) who have American Indian foster youth in their care.

Community members are invited to join us to attend an Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (A.S.I.S.T.). ASIST is 2-day interactive in-person training that teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and to work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.
